Matt Bialer has been painting watercolor landscapes since 1999. He saw a a watercolor class being taught in Mendocino, CA the summer before and that was when he got bitten by the bug. He was already an accomplished black and white street photographer with photos in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum, the Museum of the City of New York and the New York Public Library. When he was in the Berkshires, however, he didn’t want to photograph people. So, he decided to take a watercolor landscape class. He liked the fact that the medium can be unpredictable and full of surprises just like the changing seasons. He likes to take a bold approach to color and works in a loose style. A monograph of his work entitled SHADOWBROOK was published by Editions du Zaporogue in 2013 and his painting are in many private collections around the world and his work was featured in several “Best of” landscape and watercolor books. Matt has also published 15 volumes of poetry with various publishers.
